EXT. Roadside — night
We see a figure holding a large BACKPACK by its top handle, hastily walking down a dimly lit ROAD. His feet are touching the ground in a rapid pace, as if to try to escape from some unseen figure. This is BAYLEAF (17) It’s dark and cold out, at least 8 PM. The man is walking with one foot in the grass and another foot on the asphalt, barely able to keep balance. THE TALLER GRASS next to him begins to move and shift, it’s a windy night out, too windy to be moving out like this. Next to him, We see a figure with a tall and slim form wearing a horse mask, this is HORSEFACE.
bayleaf
One step…two-step…three step… I am so close. What if in my own idea’s I can imagine something for my comfort. Can I take comfort in myself?
horseface
What are you talking about?
bayleaf
This can be made easier, easily, really.
horseface
How?
bayleaf
To stop relying on others thoughts for masking, to think my own thought’s and find comfort in them.
horseface
Was that harder for you before?
bayleaf
What would you assume?
horseface
You aren’t stepping correctly.
bayleaf
What?
horseface
The way you step is wrong.
bayleaf
Which part?
horseface
The feet.
We see horseface begin to move closer to bayleaf and point at his shoes, showing how off-putting the presence of feet on two different surfaces are.
bayleaf
How do I fix this?
horseface
If you take a third of a step back, and 1/50 of a step forward, you can catch your balance and stay only on the grass.
bayleaf
That’s confusing. I’m confused, you need to repeat it.
horseface
If you take a third of a step back, and 1/50 of a step forward, you can catch your balance and stay only on the grass.
bayleaf
(Shivering and teeth beginning to jitter.)
What?
horseface
If you take a third of a step back, and 1/50 of a step forward, you can catch your balance and stay only on the grass.
bayleaf
What if I want to walk on asphalt?
horseface
That’s unnatural.
bayleaf
Grass…how do I get my footing back into the trail to stay on the balance?
horseface
If you take a third of a step back, and 1/50 of a step forward, you can catch your balance and stay only on the grass.
bayleaf
That needs to be paraphrased, you can’t just speak like that, you cannot repeat the same sentences over and over and over again and expect someone to understand without changing at least one word, people don’t talk like that!
horseface
I’m sorry.
bayleaf
It’s okay, you don’t know what you were doing.
Dissolve to:
Ext. Car lot — moments later
We see BAYLEAF and HORSEFACE alone in the car lot by a gas station moment’s later, they’re sitting down together, staring up at the sky. We see the gas station is not far off in the distance.
bayleaf (V.O)
Every day, every day, every day the endless torchers come to haunt me. Every week it is a journey, it is a story to progress the desire to physically feel my feet upon the earth and walk to this gas station. Every week it is a lustful desire to stay in my room and tell those of my stories, I want peace, love, and quiet.
bayleaf
I think my life is hopeless.
horseface
You are hopeless.
bayleaf
Life is hopeless, hope is not a real concept, why would someone have hope?
BAYLEAF stand’s up and look’s to the car’s behind him, staring.
bayleaf
I have a car, I don’t drive it, but I have a car.
horseface
(Staring up at Bayleaf)
Who drives it?
bayleaf
Someone that is not me.
horseface
You are the ideal image of what it means to be hopeless.
HORSEFACE begins to stand up and gently touch BAYLEAF on the shoulder to show him comfort.
horseface
The precious gas station you hold so dear closes soon, soon you may not be able to get your energy drink.
bayleaf
Shit, really?
horseface
Yes, really, so we should go.
bayleaf
Shit okay.
We see BAYLEAF begin to start walking towards the gas station in the far off distance, with HORSEFACE listing his hand off of him, beginning to follow BAYLEAF.
Dissolve to:
Ext. Gas station — moments later
BAYLEAF and HORSEFACE are sitting next to each other on the bench. HORSEFACE is slouching, barely showing any observational or attentive thoughts. BAYLEAF, on the other hand, is examining his newly purchased energy drinks. A bang and a NOS.
horseface
What happened the day you got picked up from school early?
bayleaf
My dad picked me up, he thought that I deserved the day off after having a hard time, so he picked me up and took me home, mom was waiting there for us with a store bought cake.
HORSEFACE sit’s up and stares a deep hole into the soul of BAYLEAF.
horseface
I don’t believe you.
BAYLEAF gets up as he begins to his energy drink into his BACKPACK.
BAYLEAF turns his head to stare at HORSEFACE in an intimidating stance.
bayleaf
It’s what happened.
Cut to
INT. bayleafs room — later that night
We are introduced to BAYLEAFS living space, it’s dimly lit and messy. Clothes are torn and scattered around the ROOM, BAYLEAFS personality is noticeable here with anime figure’s, a guitar and movie posters all over the place.
BAYLEAF is sitting in his bed, back side down, staring at the ceiling while drinking his newly purchased energy drinks.
